A spam filter is a software app that is installed on a POP3/IMAP server and ‘scans’ all incoming email messages in order to hinder any unwanted ones from entering a specific inbox. Several examples of such emails would be: offers for pills or cash, false bank notifications or email attachments that contain malware sent with the intention to damage your personal computer. Spam filters typically examine the content of an email message and in case they come across certain keywords or other suspicious content, they either erase the email or deliver it to the Junk/Spam folder instead of the Inbox folder. Certain providers mix their own email filters with up-to-the-minute databases from spam-monitoring organizations, so as to ensure better security for their clients. Such databases contain patterns, mail server IPs and other info about spam messages recently reported by these organizations.
Spam Filters in Web Hosting
Our web hosting
servers use one of the best spam filters available. It’s called SpamAssassin and is offered with each and every web hosting package, so if you host your domains with us, you can choose one of the 5 security levels that the anti-spam filter offers for any email account that you’ve got here. You can do this with only 2 clicks of the mouse from the Email Manager section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is used to manage all cloud web hosting accounts. SpamAssassin checks the header field and the body of every message, gives it a spam score and then proceeds according to the level that you’ve picked. Each email account can have a different setting and you can choose whether the emails that the anti-spam filter considers as spam should be erased or re-sent to some other email address where you can read them later, so as to prevent erasing an authentic message. Switching to another level or disabling the spam protection is also truly easy.
Spam Filters in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you use one of our semi-dedicated servers
, you will not need to worry about junk emails stuffing your mailboxes every now and then, as you can take advantage of the popular SpamAssassin anti-spam filter that we offer with each account. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel will allow you to activate the filter for any email account with several clicks of the mouse and you can select one of the 5 safety levels – from very high to very low. The level can be changed at any moment if, for example, authentic emails get blocked, or if spam messages go through and reach your Inbox folder. To take no chances, you can choose all filtered email messages to be delivered to a special mailbox such as firstname.lastname@example.org and not to be deleted. Thus, you can go through them from time to time to ensure that you haven’t omitted an authentic email.
